Thank you for visiting Math Abacus School of Seattle’s website.

Learning Abacus skills not only helps children develop the ability to calculate numbers quickly and accurately, but also nurtures critical thinking skills through consistent daily effort, forming a strong foundation for learning.
By repeatedly experiencing the joy of “I did it!” we aim to help children build confidence and develop a positive attitude toward new challenges.
Our classes are small in size, allowing us to value each student’s individual level of understanding and pace of growth while providing careful and personalized instruction.

Starting in August 2025, we are partnering with Joyful Abacus Schoolhttps://joyfulabacus.com/)to improve curriculum structure and teaching methods. Through co-hosting events and competitions, we are working together to advance abacus education in Seattle.
We look forward to learning and growing together with your child.

Main Instructor Akiko Amano

As a child, I studied Abacus and continued practicing until high school, enjoying the process of seeing things I once couldn’t do gradually become possible. Through that experience, I believe I developed perseverance and the determination to never give up until the very last second.

In the classroom, I strive to create practice activities that make children think, “This is fun! I want to do it again!” while providing careful, individualized instruction tailored to each child’s needs. Through soroban, I hope to help children develop lifelong mental calculation skills, strong thinking abilities, and the confidence that grows from achieving success.

Instructor Seiko Ishida

Having studied Abacus during my own elementary school years, I now teach based on the concentration and calculation skills I developed through that experience. By recognizing and valuing each student’s individuality and strengths, I strive to draw out their full potential while nurturing a genuine motivation to learn and encouraging them every step of the way.

Along with improving mathematical skills, we aim to develop patience and strong concentration together.

Instructor Kaori Yamada

I learned Abacus when I was a child, and that experience continues to support me greatly in both my daily life and professional work. In addition to becoming confident with numbers, the ability to focus deeply and the perseverance to see things through to the end have remained valuable skills even into adulthood.

Because I have personally experienced the lasting benefits of Abacus, I teach each day with the hope that children will gain these lifelong skills through their own soroban journey.
